CENN in cooperation with WRI/GFW under the project “Monitoring and Analysis of Forest Dynamics/Trends is offering a short-term consultancy for an Open Source Intelligence Analyst Specialist.


Project Background

  • Unsustainable use of forest resources is one of the most urgent problems in Georgia. The State Forest Fund is a highly valuable national asset and the unsustainable use of forest resources can be a threat to sustainable development.
  • One of the key elements of sustainable forest management system is comprehensive forest related information including data on the drivers of forest loss and forest gain. To help address this information gap, WRI recently released a global map on the drivers of global forest loss.  CENN, in cooperation with WRI, plans to produce a regional version of the dataset for Georgia.


Specific responsibilities include:

  • Analyze regional datasets and satellite imagery and identify trends, patterns, and relationships related to the drivers of forest loss.
  • Collaborate closely with GIS specialists to perform advanced research, analysis, and fusion of information from a variety of sources to prepare a multi-layered analysis/product on the drivers of forest loss in the caucus region.
  • Prepare statistics using R to classify drivers of global forest loss.
  • Analyze raster data and satellite imagery using R.


Necessary Qualifications:

  • Advanced knowledge of statistical analysis using R
  • Advanced knowledge of GIS and Remote Sensing
  • Experience collecting and analyzing foreign and domestic based information
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience writing technical information
  • Organizational, communication, writing and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working in the Caucasus region, preference will be given to working in Georgia
  • Proficient in speaking and writing in English
