The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is announcing an internship position under the Project: "Connective Cities - The Community of Practice for Sustainable Urban Development."

Overall job content:

Connective Cities (https://www.connective-cities.net/en/) is a multi-stakeholder project commissioned by BMZ implemented since 2013 jointly by GIZ, German Association of Cities and Engagement Global (Service Agency - Communities in One World). The Project supports municipalities in Germany as well as in the world regions Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, Asia, South Eastern Europe/South Caucasus and North Africa/Middle East in their mutual learning and in the development of innovative projects for sustainable urban development. The Project builds upon the rapid urbanisation calling for a revitalised approach to a sustainable growth of urban areas worldwide. Core problem lies in inadequate preparedness of local urban practitioners to develop locally adapted solutions to these new challenges. Making cities resilient and vibrant places to live require a paradigm shift and applying decarbonisation solutions at the local level.

The aim is to network urban actors from politics, administration, business, science and civil society from developing, emerging and industrialised countries worldwide and to initiate an exchange of experience and learning processes for sustainable urban development. The intern will be contributing to this aim working closely with the project team at GIZ in Tbilisi and Bonn (Germany). S/he will support the collection and analysis of data and support the GIZ office to ensure smooth implementation of the project mainly through facilitation of the project physical and online events, meetings, workshops, webinars, expert missions etc. The intern will be required to perform logistical and technical tasks as well as communicating large variety of the stakeholders in the targeted countries in the EU Eastern Partnership and Western Balkan states.



Specific tasks and responsibilities:

  • To research, aggregate and analyse data from the national and international level on sustainable urban development topics incl. integrated urban development, climate change, renewable energy and energy efficiency;
  • To support GIZ in liaison with key stakeholders on the local and national level and prepare information materials for further research and analysis;
  • To support organization of the analog and digital events/meetings/workshops, including preparation of minutes, in close collaboration with Connective Cities team;
  • To support preparation "calls for participation" and follow up on meetings/expert missions as well as Southeast European urban practitioners network build up;
  • To research good practices in the targeted countries and explore information sources like online platforms, webinars etc. on sustainable urban development topics;
  • To perform other relevant tasks and duties as requested by the management.
     

Qualifications and skills:

  • University degree in urban planning, urban geography, public policy & administration, local economic development, municipal services or related fields;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the global sustainability instruments and processes, such as Agenda 2030, Paris Agreement, The New Urban Agenda etc.
  • Basic knowledge on urbanization, climate change and sustainable energy issues are strongly desired;
  • Self-motivated and availability to work under the pressure;
  • Excellent communication, networking and writing skills;
  • Excellent verbal and writing communication skills in Georgian and English, knowledge of German is an advantage;
  • Good working knowledge of ITC technologies (software, email, internet) and computer applications (MS Office).
