The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is pleased to announce a job offer for the position of Green Hydrogen Advisor for the Programme “Project Development Program Hydrogen”.

Background:
GIZ Georgia is looking for an Advisor within the framework of the programme “Project Development Program Hydrogen”. The position is a part of the global programme, which GIZ is implementing on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, in 11 countries worldwide (among them in Georgia).
The project identifies local companies that with opportunities to switch from producing grey hydrogen to green hydrogen or its derivates close to business cases and within a short period. It advises them on plant design, business models and how they can cover the funding gap compared to grey hydrogen. With a view to accelerating the move to green hydrogen, the project facilitates access to funding instruments and to suitable technology partners from Germany and elsewhere. The project analyses industry segments that would be suitable for pilot projects and presents them to companies registered at the German Energy Solution Initiative. Additional training sessions raise awareness among local hydrogen customers, producers, and project developers with the involvement of the solution providers. Local companies gain contacts to suppliers, who are made aware of specific project opportunities. Because of their pioneering role, they can profit from financial support measures for pilot projects.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to a strategy to identify project opportunities in the country to turn grey hydrogen into green hydrogen including derivatives such as ammonia and fertilizers, within the chemical, glass, fertilizers, and oil & gas industries and contribute to its implementation under the technical guidance of the “Country Manager” in Germany.
  • Contribute to the preparation and review of draft studies looking at market opportunities and risks for grey to green hydrogen projects in the country.
  • Contribute to the identification of local capacity needs and preparation of training sessions targeted to representatives of industry, project developers and regulatory bodies.
  • Conduct comprehensive engineering site audits to systematically gather and validate essential data crucial for pre-developing hydrogen and power-to-x projects in cooperation with local industry representative.
  • Plan, coordinate, and document results of meetings, workshops, seminars, and other collaborative sessions.

Communication:
  • Prepare and hold presentations to inform about the projects services on pre-project development targeted to industrial companies using grey hydrogen.
  • Represent the project and hold presentations at relevant conferences and fairs in the renewable energy and other industry related fields.
  • Draft or review text messages that contribute to the projects public relation and learning activities and contribute to other PR- measure that document project outcomes.
  • Network with relevant stakeholders and identification of experts in the country and maintain contacts with the German foreign Trade Chamber

Knowledge Management:
  • Contribute to fill in and regularly update information on project opportunities and their further development process (pipeline)
  • Observe and contribute to inform about changes in political, economic, and regulatory settings of the country that influence the development of the local market of the correspondent services and technologies as well as related tender processes.
  • Observe and report on actors in the local market, such as project developers, technology providers, finance services and carbon markets actors and well as development aid actors targeted to green hydrogen and derivates project development.
  • Network with colleagues from other GIZ implemented projects in the field of energy, fertilizers, and economic development to take advantages of synergies and manage interphases.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCES:
Qualifications
  • University degree (MSc, BSc.), in energy, engineering/chemical engineering, chemistry, renewable energy economics or comparable studies.

Professional experience
  • At least three (3) years of working experience in industry or engineering, preferably in project development, business development, market development, preferably in the energy or industry sector. Experience in the field of hydrogen, ammonia and Power-to-x is a plus.

Skills and Competences:
  • Practiced knowledge on the topic of site auditing and data collection.
  • Good understanding about renewable energy, especially PV, wind, battery storage, electrolyzer, technical processes in industries is required.
  • Knowledge in project finance is an asset;
  • Excellent communication skills, experience in preparing presentations, presenting cases and explaining technical and financial issues to clients is an asset.
  • Strong organizational competence, administrative and event organization experience is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites across the country and intercultural skills to work in an international environment.
  • Language skills: business proficiency in English is mandatory.
